Woots, episode 03 is here. One thing I like about H2O is the setting. Quiet village, greenery, rolling hills, etc. Peaceful feeling to it somehow.

And man, I miss the days when fansubbing was so much simpler. People were happy with just some plain text subs slapped on a divx 3 encode. Nowadays, you only get rated by how pretty the dialogue fonts are, how fancy the karaoke is, how elegantly the TS was done and how good the encode is. Have people stopped caring about the actual anime that they’re watching? Oh, speaking of which, the OP karaoke has special effects now. Do we get bonus points for that? lol. Sorry, just ranting, please ignore me.

    kids nowadays… they complain about everything… even when it’s perfectly fine lol (i remember fitting a whole season on a 650 meg cd rofl) anywho as long as it’s not obvious i’ll take pretty much anything… when i’ll feel like not watching subs i’ll just have to learn jap (or korean, vietnamese and other such languages) ^^;

  8. I care more about readability than the font or font effects. Of course I do also appreciate a good quality encode.

I remember the old days, like Fushigi Yuugi fansubs. Each episode was split in 2 and the files were only 10 MB Real Media files. Fansubs sure have come a long way.

  11. Hey!
Do you mind that I request a series? I know you are busy with your other series, but it seems that the fansubbing group that used to sub this series is quite busy and have been inactive since November 2007. The series name is Wellber no Monogatari (Sisters of Wellber). I love all the series you sub, and I really appreciate it. ^^ Thank you!

Man They are absolutely right. I continually pause the aime to take a look at the fonts, see how they are drow, at whitch distance they are from the borders and the colour you have selected for that frase. I do all that because I like to imgine what were you thinking when you decided to made those choises. I’ triying to enter in the brains of the translators and editors to find out what is wrong in there.
Sorry fellas for sounding so dark and brain damaged but that was the only personality I could think about of a person who complains of something so trivial as that. I mean they have complained about “mistakes” and now the font??? And they even want fancy effects in the op and ed??? (I have to say they make the visual experience of watching your subs more pleasant, but I don’t mind if you decide to put them in the black arial or times new roman that i have learn to hate in all my paper for the uni.) Just keep up the good work and make sure to only listen (read, writting properly) the compliments of the people who really enjoy your subs.

I still think it is funny that people want the effects on the subs, I like just good font that is readable so that I can read it, a lot of groups put the effects in there and it makes it too hard to read it most of the times…

i just care about 2 things, the sub itself and the translation the more accurate and best interpretations of the dialogs because japanese to other language is more an art of interpretation than a real translation imo.

the second most important thing is the enconde because i dont like see super pixels on the screen 😛

As long as your font is readable, I don’t see what more a person should do.
As for karaoke stuff, if you don’t like hammering out every syllable of some song and making it, then why do you do it? If you do it only to garner approval from people who want to sing along to their cartoons or whatever it is they need karaoke effects for, you’re just as bad as they are for kowtowing to them and telling them that yes, it is OK to demand fansubbers to waste their time with extraneous crap like separate font colors for each character, flashing words during songs (In three writing systems, sometimes!) and other stuff that only exponentially increase the amount of work required for each episode.
I say fuck them. Use 24pt black Arial Unicode with a 3px yellow outline, and only translate dialogue and essential signs.

    11:23 pm on January 18th, 2008

I actually prefer the earlier subs WITHOUT the fancy typesettings/fonts etc (Example: True Tears ep.1 font > ep.2 IMO). But whatever, long as it’s readable and the background or font color doesn’t obscure or ruin the text etc.

And I agree. Why give in to such demands? If people don’t like it, screw them. Have them go to other sub group that give poor subs.

I once whined about a particular sub group (let’s call them Sub Group A) for another anime, for being late with releases etc. I was a newbie to anime then. I decided to try out the “better” Sub Group B and realized their translations were either wrong or didn’t flow right, and I didn’t like their “fancier” fonts, karaoke etc. I immediately went back to Sub Group A and never complained again.

  32. Harbin
    11:46 pm on January 18th, 2008

Thanks for the sub. To comment, I feel that pretty fonts and effect is just frosting on the cake. The “cake” of course is the quality of the subs. If your subs are good, I’m happy, and if there are extra frostings on my cake, i’ll be even more delighted. Thanks for all your hard work!

    12:25 am on January 19th, 2008

Damn straight to anyone going for the whole I can read it and thats good enough approach, anyone else, fuck off, go to a another fansub group then, seriously. This group has stated their intentions, and are aptly fulfilling it, getting better every time, stop complaining or realize that this group in particular gives you your anime faster than any others, and having plain effects etc. is the outcome, deal with it…….. go to another group if you have issues.

  34. WillTRiker
    3:45 am on January 19th, 2008

Hear, hear. I seriously wish all the whining could go find a cliff and jump off it. Be glad there are people who are spending their time and resources to bring you anime you otherwise probably would only have been able to watch as a raw. Next to the obviously good video and audio qualities of a release the most important thing for me about a fansub is the quality of it’s translation, preferably made visible with a unintrusive and easily readable font and setting and ofcourse well timed. All other things such as Karoake and special effects are extra and if a group wants to bother with that then kudo’s to them, but if not then you won’t hear me. The reason I watch anime is for the story and not for some damn Karaoke or special effects.

Besides if you don’t like the font then go learn a skill and alter if for yourself, or even better learn it and join a group so others may profit from it. Iirc if you use Zoomplayer you can alter the font yourself as long as it isn’t hardcoded.

    Anyway, thanks for the release.

I don’t understand what could be wrong with the subtitles. I never saw a better one.
Ever since I watched Darker Than Black with Softsubs I began loving simple softsubbed fonts which are so very clear and easy to read.
Besides it looks really good that way.
H2O might not be HDTV but the encode provides the best quality available right now (Dunno if even DVD source will improve it).
The OP/ED looks really nice as well, I don’t really need jumping letters!
The only possible enhancement could be to give every character a special font/colour to fit the personality/mood ect…that’s some hardcore work I guess!
BG knows his stuff and encodes in the highest quality as well as keeping the filesize low.
As he stated a higher bitrate wouldn’t improve the thing.
Just accept m.3.3.w’s style and be grateful for such a great and fast work provided for free!

    Yeah I’m serious =)

Oddly enough, the torrent for the torrent for the H264 version doesn’t seem to be working correctly. Says requested torrent is not authorised for use with this tracker or some such. Copying and pasting the trackers from the AVI torrent to the MKV sorts the problem out, but it might be something you guys would like to take a look at. But then again it might just be a problem with my bittorrent client. Sorry if this is the wrong place to be posting that.

Thanks for the subs all the same! Great work from you guys which I have come to expect of late.

think we’ll break a record with the haters of hate mail xess? lol (i also remember the times when the font for the subs was the bestest thing cuz of a 10 meg ep) ah wells thoses days are long gone and like i said in an earlier post… if ya really wanna complain then learn jap and moan at how inept the translation is (tho i’m pretty sure it’s a fair thing cuz i’ve read japanese ppl and it still gives me headaches when she don’t come up with something i can understand tho she’s supposed to best of class in engrish)

  40. @Adam & xess: The tracker list needs to have an empty line in between trackers, the original file just had them listed like this:

    Tracker1
    Tracker2
    etc…

    When it should be:

    Tracker1

    Tracker2

    etc…

like most of the ppl already said, nice fonts is just the glaze on the cake, but tbh. I hate glazes on cakes ^^

really liked the white arial that you used on true tears 01, it’s easier against my eyes.

Special effects on the OP/EDs aren’t required either, jumping letters and such, but romaji, english and kanji subs is actually a require of mine to give a sub a passing grade, well, kanji is just an addon but it definately makes the grade go up ^^.

spelling is also an important thing, don’t really wanna see an animesub with 85% spelling and grammar errors, but it’s nothing wrong with yours 😀

just wanna point out that you guys fulfill all these points, so keep up the good work and I would be more than happy if you guys return to the old days ^^

    In other words, you’re awesome!

  43. lmao xess don’t give in to their selfish demands 😛

Great subs that are quick and regular. Can’t ask for anything more really..as long as I can read it that’s all I need.

    Every player renders subtitles differently…
At least with Jetaudio you can even change font and color of softsubs [..]

I like m33w-subs because they are even readable in a distance of ~3 metres on a 17″ TFT. Don’t know how they are suppossed to be shown but I always have them white and big (Arial).

Woot! H.264 H2O 3! Thanks, guys! Though I agree with everyone else on this one: fancy typesetting isn’t needed at all. The complaining and the negative feedback from all of the @$$holes may seem to stick more and there may seem more of it, but let’s face it: That’s not who fansubs are really for. They’re just watching it to be wowed by the fancy effects and don’t really give a damn about the actual anime. It may seem like there are more of them than there are of us because they never shut up and you hear their complaints 24/7, but just remember that there are just as many of us who actually care about the anime and your hard work and not the light show typesetting. Next time they complain, just flip them off and keep up the good work!

    Tracker aint working(?)
Cant download both versions(xvid and h.264)
    uTorrent 1.7.6

  47. double click the download bar and insert a space between trackers like this:
    Tracker 1(press enter here)
    (press enter here)
    Tracker 2(press enter here)
    (press enter here)
    ….
You got the picture. In my case both worked out fine. You should check if you have a firewall restricting uTorrents’ access: it may be your firewall which does not allow connections to/from uTorrent,or you added by mistake uTorrent to windwos’ firewall by mistake.
I use the exact same client and have no problem.
    Hope that helps..FTW 😀

@Darkthor: cheers, I didn’t even know you could do that in uTorrent. Btw, the bakadownloads.com tracker also comes up with the not authorised message – it seems that anirena.com is the only one in the entire list that actually works.

Anyway, DLing now so all is right in the world. Thanks for subbing this guys!

  49. yeah,i saw that…but could care less…i still have 74 peers and 200+ seeds,50 connected..it;s going full-speed even if baka and edwardk trackers are screwed…so..who cares :P?

I am one of the few(?) who wants ONLY the subtitle, that is, no karaoke, no fancy fonts, just a small readable subtitle. Karaoke annoys me so much that I usually skip the op and ed even though I like them. I have started watching raws because of the karaoke(I do understand enough Japanese anyway, watching fansubs has just become a habit, and there might be the occasional word I don’t know).

What is the point of the karaoke anyway? The lyrics are usually stupid and pointless, at best pretty words strung together, and if you for some reason really need to understand the text then there are translations all over the net. The fansub group could put the translation on their website too, if it is so f***ing important.
And why the Japanese text??? If you can read Japanese, why would you need the subtitles in the first place?
The romaji is also stupid, you can usually easily hear what is being said, even if you can’t understand, and if you can’t understand, what does it help to know what is being sung? Is there really anyone who sings along when they watch the opening to an anime?! If so, unless you are really good at singing or honestly practicing, go get a life.

m.3.3.w, stop covering half the bloody screen with big ugly letters in ugly fonts, I want to see the anime, not how good you are at typesetting.

  55. Rolle
    5:15 pm on January 20th, 2008

Well, as for me, the subtitles could be in plain Arial. The important thing to me is that the translation is somewhat understandable and that the timings are good.

Thank you for such a good work that you are doing!
