Those two shows have been licensed by Bandai Visual today. Click here for the news feed.

Obviously, that directly affects us as R1 companies are known to C&D fansubbers for pirating their licenses. This website is located in the US and is vulnerable to legal action. We will begin removing torrent and DDL links to those said shows soon.

Please use your imagination (hint: google and tokyotosho) to find future episodes. I will stop posting news updates regarding releases of True Tears and Shigofumi.

well i am pissed at the usa again gonna ruin another perfectly good anime by dubbing it and releaseing it with only the English dub you know what thats messed up and i think it is really disrespectful to the Japanese voice actors i hope it still gets subbed by anonymous groups *shakes fist at bandai us*

They will most likely release the DVD with bilingual Audio (Japanese and English) with an English subtitle track. Also note that M33W has not actually said they are going to stop releasing episodes of the two anime, they just stated that it won’t be released by Torrents or DDL. Some subbing groups do continue releasing by XDCC. We just need to hop that atleast one group will do that at a decent quality.

Cartis is NOT a happy panda. :

  10. The DVD releases will have Japanese dialogue with English subtitles only, similar to the previous release of ‘Galaxy Angel Rune’ from Bandai.

So there will be no English dub at all and that’s fine by me, not a big fan anyway.

The price point is something else entirely, however I’m really glad to have the series DVDs two months after the Japanese release.

So for my part I’ll try to focus on the good aspects of this.

ehh… one one hand – i am quite happy knowing that GOOD & GREAT anime was licensed, but… on the other hand – GOD DAMMIT!!!!

i don’t live in USA, nor do i live in the progressive part of the EU, where there are some licensed anime. Here – in my country – i have ONLY russian licenses, which are dubbed, not subbed, and anyway i dislike reading Russian subs – because i am so used to English ones it makes me hard to watch anime any other way than reading English subs.

and ordering anime from amazon isn’t an option too – they aren’t allowed to deliver them here… (at least i can order manga 🙂 )

That aside – Thank you very much m33w for your great work and intruduction of such great title as a True tears is. 😉 (won’t be mourning over Shigofumi, but can’t say that hat was bad either )

  18. Amethyst
    5:38 am on January 31st, 2008

I believe you can order to russia from DVDPacific if nessesary. But with the prices they are asking for a sub only disc id be suprised if anyone buys it. US$30 for 1 ep or US$40 for 2 is just rediculous.

  19. psygremlin
    5:40 am on January 31st, 2008

Just to add to everybody’s woes at these 2 great series being licensed – firstly, yes it’s by Bandai and secondly they’re releasing at a 7 DVD (yes, 7!!) set – 2 episode disk costs $40, 1 episode disk $30. $270 for a 13-episode series. Good luck to them.

  20. Xasec
    5:41 am on January 31st, 2008

hmm.. i really enjoy your subs, what a shame that the 2 were licensed ðŸ™

This sounds like you will go on working on these episodes but won’t publish them or at least you won’t post links on this site, i hope so 🙂

  21. Well, I’m really sadden by the news as I wanna see more of Noe. But nevermine, we must respect the license holders, so let’s just concentrate on H2O. I’m wondering if m33w will pick up any more projects since almost SHigofumi and True Tears won’t be subbed anymore.

Two series licenced. I think I should be happy, but I’m not. I live in Argentina that means that if i buy that anime from outside I will have to pay the 40 bucks for the two episodes + almost 40 bucks in customs fare. Even without the customs theft, it’s fairly expensive for me.
The only thing I know for sure is that if you are going to be in trouble if you continue with the fansubbing of these to series then you should stop them. It’s not worth it to continue fansubbin them at the risk of losing a great fansub group like the one all you have put together. I will look for another subs and I hope they make releases at least half as good as yours.
The companies seems to be learning to speed licencing now that there are so many speed fansubs.
As always I hope you can keep up with the good work and don’t let it bother (too much) because I know almost all of us will bet the 270 u$s that them will have been translated way better by m.3.3.w.

As I’m some one stupid enough to buy BV releases (SRW) I can inform you all that their releases are top quality. The packaging, the video quality and the subtitle quality are all top notch. Of course their subs are just simple text with no fancy effects fansubbers like to add, but it’s better that way. Does that justify that higher price? Hell no.

And their stuff is ALWAYS SUB ONLY. The only BV releases with english dubs are the ones that already had them (Patlabor and Wings of Honeimise). So you can quit bitching about that. It rather irks me to see people complaining about dubs when there’s always the option to switch to subs. There’s only a few titles that are dub only and they’re rather obscure. Dubs don’t ‘ruin’ anything anyways. There are people who want to watch it in their own language you know. Sub lovers who are outraged by the very principle of a dub are morons.

That said, the real issue here is that lack of a dub should mean a LOWER price. You’re supposed to pay less for less, not more for less.

Like you all, I was greatly loving True Tears and I hope some group continues subbing it. BV doesn’t seem like the kind of company to send out C&Ds anyways (SRW subs are still being released). I think m.3.3.w should continue subbing and only stop if they get a C&D. Otherwise we’ll be subjected to the utter wallet rape that is $270 for 13 eps. I wouldn’t expect any DVD rips, as no one in their right mind would pay that much to get the DVDs so they can rip them.

BTW, moving the server to Canada wouldn’t change a thing, as the lisence is for NORTH AMERICA, so it’s both Canada and the US.

  63. Simply put the torrents on other servers that aren’t american, cause paying $270 for 13 episodes is a total ripoff. Pirate Bay is one of them

  64. @ 30.

I thought it was $40 for one, not two? 😮

    12:12 pm on January 31st, 2008

Sad to see that M33 are dropping two great series but I understand. If you follow the suggestion in the news post and search “true tears” at http://www.tokyotosho.com, you will not be disappointed. Unfortunately, the best subs and most timely were here. But HD versions of True Tears are still out there and won’t disappear. No, I won’t buy 7 over priced DVD’s, but maybe when the box set comes out, assuming it is under $100, I will buy that.

  66. gastonf
    12:12 pm on January 31st, 2008

    @lcleong

Mmmm some DVD releases come with japanese sound and english subs so it’s not so bad. Anyways if you don’t like it you can find it somewhere else, as they said use google and you will find something. You must keep in mind that if you don’t like something, nobody will force you to buy them, or download them. If you read the post I made you will see that I said that I can’t afford that, so I will download it from somewhere else.
And let me tell you that when an anime or manga is licenced the company has to pay some money that after going to the original owner of the rights reach the mangaka or animaka(I don’t know how the one who make the anime is called in Japan) and that will make his/her pockets a bit heavier and he will continue to make more anime. So that is a good thing. Another good point is that there are people who likes the anime but they don’t have internet and they have to buy it from a store or wait till it is on TV.
I don’t know how it is where you live but here anime is desappering even from cable tv. Only Animax is passing anime 24/7 and in cartoon you can see Dragon Ball, One piece (I think only the two first seasons), Naruto (first 25 eps) and pokemon (the only one with a decent lenght) oh and animax is only showing the same shows it had when they started and had been reapiting them to no end. And here comes my point number three, on tv they only show licenced anime (as far as I know) so maybe that will make that in five years (I’m not so naive) I could see them on the TV. Because even if the dubs are bad (in my opinion some voices in spanish tend to be much older than they are supposed to be, but they tend to be more bearable that the english ones, note that its only my opinion) more people will see them.
You must think not only in yourself but also in others, even licencing has it good points. Of course is a shit when they are badly done and cost a lot but nowdays the world moves like that and after all this is just a business, even if you don’t like it. Also you must think that if m.3.3.w continues, they will be in troubles. They are a great group and I’m completely sure that otherwise they will not stop these two shows.
Well this is making itself more long than I already have planned so bye. And as usual keep up the good work m.3.3.w. I’m eagerly waiting for Rosario.

.srt files are equally illegal as releasing the entire video itself. Translations are considered derivative works of the original and thus falls into the jurisdiction of the copyright holder. Thus you can’t translate Harry Potter into French and claim it as you own work, etc.

It’s not that I’m extremely annoyed..per say, but the fact is your anime is OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced. $30 for one 25 minute episode? That’s more expensive than block buster movies that you COULD possibly overprice. You’re losing sales by setting the price bar so high. I’m specifically talking about True Tears and Shigofumi. I, and the rest of the people on the site I get my info from, are very disappointed in your actions concerning these two anime. It’s not that you, an American company, are wrong in licensing these anime and becoming interested in Japanese programing which is better than American cartoons by far, it’s the fact that you make EVERYTHING so damn overpriced. You’re annoying the people that made anime popular in the United States in the first place. Because of this, I and many others that feel the same way about this matter, will never buy Bandai products until these matters are dealt with in a manner respecting the American anime committee. Thank you for your time.

I encourage all of you to send a comment to Bandai Visual USA with this, or something like it, copied. It’s freaking rediculous.

@ xess I use rss but I also check the site regularly. I want to thank m33w again for doing an excellent job on their fan subs. you guys rock. and couldnt bandai at least wait until the series has completed airing before licensing! >

I believe they set it at that price to prevent grey imports from japanese customers. Since the japanese price is around that region as well for all anime DVDs and often only contains 2 episodes per disc. However, those prices are certainly unjustified for any market.

I think if prices where more reasonable less fuss would be made about these anime being licenced, but there will always be people that want something for nothing 😛

Idely, Bandai Visual USA is technically a Japanese company doing business in the US. As such they are applying Japanese standards to their releases. Luckily they’re the ONLY R1 company that does this.

And yeah, they’re the only reason why this is such a big deal.

I’m rather surprised to see how many people here don’t live in North America.

    Really sad. Love both series.

Don’t mind paying for anime or any other media, but not idiotic prices order of magnitude 8 times more expensive per minute than for example a season of Stargate Atlantis. That’s not an option, even if I can afford it. Can’t let them rip off people like that.

And, I don’t live in the Americas either 😉

Apparently they held the license before the first episode was aired. The only just made it Public recently so theres no way they could’ve know it would be this popular.

  101. Personally I would have preferred to see ADV pick these up. I’ll have to get the at least the first R1 they release and hope they dubs are decent.

Why dont m33w change it server to somewhere else so it can avoid legal action. so far i know most people now is changing to ASEAN region especially malaysia.
From what i hear there is no limit to what you can post in malaysia based website except on certain issues which may affect the goverment and the server there is much cheaper too, seriously !!

  103. Ohhh, no dubs.. Hmm well.. we’ll see.. 1-2 episodes a disk. Gosh that’s pretty bad. If they would release a thinpak I’d be happy. Screw the individual disks. What the heck. Put the whole series on a Blue-Ray and charge a fair price for it….. Gahhhhhh.

THIS A LOAD OF BULLSHIT ALL OVER IT.

Well, does Bandai acutally sue or C&D fansubbers?

So far, the only company in North America who does that as far as I know is ADV (fuckers).

Does Bandai really have such a bad reputation (first I’ve heard of it).

I mean, if Bandai doesn’t C&D you, does that mean you can still sub it?

Personally, although I DO buy anime, I like to see the whole series before investing significant sums of money into a licensed dvd…

And if it is something I like (which I so far do with true tears), I totally am willing to pay… (even though it is ridiculous of them).

    meh…

Oh, and thank you to m33w, I really enjoy your work and thank you for all you’ve done so far. Wether you drop it or not is up to you, and I respect whatever choice you make for whatever reasons. Just know that I am still a fan of yours 😉 (and yes, I will check tokosho, thx for the tip, and google has always been good).

ps: yes, I know the message is ambiguous… that’s besides the point…

pps: I’d really like to know about bandai’s past C&Ds and lawsuits… please do share the info if any of you have it.

    thx.

Damn did half the people not read the news post? it said clearly “All volumes will have Japanese dialogue with English subtitles.” it didn’t say SQUAT about English Voice overs/Dubs.

I will likely be buying the DVDs… LoL but only after they’re in a box set at a lower price. That’s how I get most my anime at least.

As for Dubs sucking… yea that’s expected, the companies don’t re-draw the facial movements to match the that they’re dubbing it for, as well as companies being lazy & using just inhouse talent instead of auditioning for the proper talent to fit the character(s)

m33w Thank you for subbing the series up till now & getting me interested in a few more anime series to buy when they get here to the US.

  118. Joystiq
    5:26 pm on February 1st, 2008

This isn’t the best of news, but remember there are current fansubbing groups still available for these 2 projects (though the group for Shigofumi is not that known compared to the group that is subbing True Tears Doremi). Though I do admit Bandai is making a terrible move for charging $30 for 1 episode and you know I don’t mind buying DVDs when they are first released (currently buying Kanon DVDs when it is first released) but when you compare $30 for 1ep to $20 for 4ep that’s not good for anyone, consumers are not stupid to fall for it and the company loses out for having to develop the discs in the first and for keeping them on inventory. One last thing, some people are overreacting to this.

    1. If you were the owner of the anime and your work is given out for free how would you feel. I’m not defending all animation studios, original authors (since some are money grubbing bastards) but the show was only intended for viewers in Japan not for the entire world to view.

    2. If you don’t support and buy the product anime might cease to exist (it’s not like the studios have enormous amount of cash on their side, some are financially backed and if the studio is not making any profits you won’t have anyone financially backing you up)

Point is anime distribution companies are needed otherwise you will lose out on a lot of anime. Also, in the same way Death Note received a C&D, there are groups who will continue to sub so y’all could stop whining about it.

P.S. Some of you really need to research even just a bit. Bandai is not a U.S. company, it is an Japanese based company. It set up a U.S division that is all.

    *cofcof*
i’m sorry ^^ i just want more true tears T_T

  123. $270? I could get that for about 80 bucks since it’ll probably fit on 4 DVD’s. If you bought the R2 releases from Japan, it would of cost you 10x the amount and you’ll only get 2 eps per DVD. So stop over extragating.

@animekami are you saying that if I watch code geass I would understand that animes are not going away? r u basing that off the anime or what the series directors and animation studio said (u need to be more specific)

like I said before I’m not defending any animation studio or distribution company but I think that distributing anime without the consent of the original author is plain wrong (that’s my 2cents)

anyway, a lot of people are cursing out Bandai as if it’s an American company…people really need to do a bit of research, it’s an Japanese company! Just look at the name “Bandai” does that even sound American? LOL

  127. Anonymous
    10:07 am on February 2nd, 2008

I normally support North American licensing, but what the hell?! Slapping us with Japanese-priced DVDs is just obscene! I won’t be so much as renting these when they’re released here, and will emailing BANDAI in protest (as should every other R1 anime fan). If they want to play the Capitalism game, they had better get used to the word, “boycott!”

In a completely unrelated note, I’ve added Tokyo Toshokan’s anime RSS to my list of feeds.

  128. We from FTP-Anime Fansubs will continue to sub Shigofumi. Our servers are in malasia so licences won’t affect us. Our reason to continue subbing it is because of the inhumane prices for the DVD’s. If they were cheaper we would have dropped it too.

Well considering that most m.3.3.w fansub members are situated in the U.S (I assume).
