I (personally) think it is hilarious to see how Japanese make a big deal of touching/holding hands …
Somehow I don’t get tired of this “kind of joke” …(sure these are cultural backgrounds, I know that 😉 )

It’s not only Japanese culture/society, it’s also most if not all middle eastern societies/culture (Muslims, Judaism, Hinduism and so on) public displays of affection are more often looked down upon. And lets not forget that most Animes are targeted towards young Japanese males and not take anything that happens in an Anime too seriously. Anime does not reflect a certain custom or belief of Japanese society, a-lot of these “situations” are exaggerated for comical effect.

I sure know that.. there are even cultures where women HAVE to walk at least one meter behind their man.
A friend of mine talked about a wedding custom in his country. After the wedding night the sheet has to be hang out of the window to show that blood is on it. So the family can be sure that the girl still was a virgin… (Punishment would be death for the girl [..])
Ah well, btt .. what I wanted to say .. that’s why I set _kind of joke_ in quotes. It sure is exaggeration but in everything lies a bit of truth though.

Yea that virgin thing is true, saw a documentary on it. It’s both sick and disturbing, makes me realize how lucky I am to be living in Canada. We take things for granted never understanding of what really happens outside of our secure borders.

It’s indeed true.. and my friend is Morrocan btw. It’s a custom which originally also existed in the christian culture (but nowadays mostly abdoned). In Germany for example virginity once was protected by law, so if a man deflorated a woman and didn’t take her to the altar he was condemned to pay a fee to her. But you know the muslim culture gives a lot about honor and pride. And I think you both know that to regain their honor killing is a “good” choice… The so called “honor killing”…
