Yes… Five pounds a century ago would be more then a low level servant might make in a year. One pound divides into twenty shillings, which divides into twelve pence. There were also florins (two shillings), and crowns (five shillings). In the mid-ninteenth century, weekly wages of 1-3 shillings were commonplace, although Lydia Carlton’s father, as a professor, would earn slightly better then that.

In any case, 5 pounds would still have probably been the largest amount of money Lydia had ever been given before.

Only 13 episodes?? I can’t believe it’s so short!! It should at least have 26 eps Why are all the good animes so short?

I was so… surprised by this anime — it’s absolutely WONDERFUL. Tied for first with VKG, and definite top 10 all-time material The voices are beautiful, the characters interesting, and even a real plot. I looked for a manga – but wiki says there are 15 light novels since 2004, and a manga which started August 24 of this year (but I haven’t found anywhere). It also says this anime is only 13 episodes. It will be interesting if the story wraps up in that time or if it’s left open for a second season.
