New season, new shows. Our first release of the season is Hanasakeru Seishounen. I wasn’t planning on subbing anything this season, but I just got too bored and decided to do it anyways. Hanasake is slated for 26 episodes according to NHK’s website.
So why did I choose this as one of our projects. Well, just by looking at the first screen on the website and its title which literally translates to “Flower blooming young young men,” I strongly doubt that other subbers would jump at the chance to work on it. One of our philosophies at m33w is to try to avoid oversubbing since there really aren’t enough English fansub groups around to cover all the series if like 5 groups do the same show.
Hanasake is also a shoujo (and not yaoi), a rather unpopular genre amongst the male dominated fansubbing scene. m33w has at least 20 active staff, none of whom are female. So that gives you the idea of the ratio. However, girls do make a very large percentage of the anime viewing population, and is possibly a little left out unfortunately. After all, we were the only ones to sub Itazura na Kiss, Special A and Earl & Fairy to completion.
The story revolves around 14 year old half-American, half-Japanese Kugami Kajika, daughter of the Burnsworth Corporation, who must choose a husband from three men. It is based upon the manga of the same name, which spans 12 volumes. It has not been scanlated into English. Only the first chapter has, but the translation leaves quite a lot to be desired. You’ll notice rather large differences between our subs and the scans despite having identical dialogue for the most part.
Our releases are in standard DVD resolution for the mkv version (sortove), and 396p for the avi one. The karaoke is soft-subbed, so you can switch it off in the mkv version if that pleases you. The songs are performed by Korean singer, J-Min. She doesn’t even have a wikipedia article, so I guess she must be pretty new. But check our one of her songs here. It’s pretty good, in my opinion. You will find that the OP kara is not translated. This is because the song is partially in English and partially in Japanese. In other words, the average Japanese viewer won’t understand it. You can enjoy the same experience as them in this case.
Lastly, please don’t complain about “say/speak your piece.” That is correct.

Sure, m.3.3.w was up on fansubwiki as subbing, but it also had a question mark beside it. If you notice, our name is no longer there. On a personal note, I /do/ hope somebody subs this, as I’m a big fan of Anne of Green Gables.

Thank you soo much for subbing this. For somehow, I knew you would sub it. Since this anime is a shoujo genre with bishies (*ahem* I know 07-Ghost have that too, but is different. Is have action XD!), there would be barely anyone who would sub it. So I believe you would do it after all since did Hakushaku to yosei =3!

omfg, when I heard you guys were doing Hatsukoi instead of Hanasakeru I was totally bombed.
I was thinking, after S.A., ItaKiss, and Hakushaku to Yousei that I would be totally sad if you didn’t pick up what looked like would be the decent shoujo of the season.
And I .. I saw the torrent, and I shrieked with joy.

I’m basing the number from NHK’s website. Perhaps the seiyuus thought it was going to be 39 eps, but in the end, NHK only signed 26 eps? Well, doesn’t really matter if it’s 26 or 39. The manga is only 12 volumes, so pacing will be very slow if it’s 39 eps.

I think I’ll check this one out. I never got around to starting Munto, though, so I might watch that first. I downloaded the first ep, but I started getting into the .hack// series about that time, and I’m still going with it. Right now I’m on episode 3 of ROOTS.
But this definitely looks worth a try. I like the art style, and since I liked ItaKiss and S*A (S*A is how I found m33w), I assume I’ll like this one, too. I can’t remember what the name of that one was that you decided against. Hatsu-something Limited, or something like that? I’m too lazy to go look it up. Anyway, I’d never heard of it anyway, so I’m not too down about that.
And now I’m rambling. In a nutshell, thanks guys. Awesome as always.

Correcting myself. It seems two other groups (that i haven’t heard of) are subbing this series too. And released today. But your release was faster, and I trust m33w..
