If you don’t have problems with episode 06 h264, then you don’t really need to download it. The following is an explanation of the problem.

[18:12:46] <bigguy> ok, to sum it up: MKV can support several chapter files, and upon remuxing a MKV file, the chapters get copied over
[18:12:56] <bigguy> somehow a wrong chapter was muxed in, in the past
[18:13:19] <bigguy> which caused some player who don’t know all the mkv functions well, to fail horribly to choose which was the good chapter
[18:13:26] <bigguy> so it chose to open the ‘broken’ chapters
[18:13:42] <bigguy> if you use haali splitter you can change the section manually
[18:13:48] <bigguy> but it should autopick section 1

Basically we had an old chapter file that was muxed in, which apparently breaks playability with some (shitty) players. We’ll avoid that in the future, but now that Mango-chan has discovered this, expect this problem with future CoalGuys releases.

you’re making so many v2’s this season, i think from now on ill wait a week before downloading your releases..

It’s a combination of increased carelessness and a strict response to said carelessness by yours truly. Hopefully the past week or so will not be representative of our work in the coming weeks. -tun

Make a sub pack PLEASE !!

Vipervoid1, please tell us what you mean by ‘sub pack’. If it’s just a collection of the .ass files, you can get those yourself by using mkvextract on the .mkv files. If it’s smth else, let us know. -Ichigo69

  8. Thanks for the release. Keep up the good work! ^_^

the v2, most likely. Why would we use a lesser version? That would imply that the second version is equal or inferior to the first.

Probably v2, ’cause, besides MPC, it works on the main WMP.

So a player which isn’t playing a file because someone screwed up is ‘shitty’?

It’s thanks to people who think this way that we can’t have universal standards for anything. Take Collada for example.. It’s a royal pain the ass 3d modeling format, mostly because people put too much faith in the importers.

Anyhow, this issue can easily be solved in under a minute with mkvtoolnix.

Okay. Anyone who posts in this blog post about effing media players or codecs will also have their comments removed. Gosh. Also, Windows Media Player can go (etc.).

    Well,
I really don’t understand at all..
“Old chapter file was muxed in?”
    What was that?
    Can someone explain to me?

    Thanks & regards..

Technical terminology; don’t worry about it.

I’m not sure I should be answering this, but here goes. I’m not 100% sure this is correct, but I believe that there is a file that contains a list of chapters. This file is added to the mkv video file. In the v1 of the episode there was two (different) chapter files which made it unplayable on some media players.

Interestingly enough, this is not what caused it not to play for me. There had to have been something different about how this episode was encoded, as I could not play either of them until I changed an option in my media player (and have been able to play all of m33w’s previous releases without any problems. I’m considering going for a masters in CS after I finish up my BS this fall and am considering doing video related research, so out of curiosity, if anyone is willing to answer what changed?

tl;dr just download version 2. Was there something about the encoding that was different this time (not just the chapters file)?

I think that we need an episode about Kei’s older sister.

Is it just me or neither version 1 or version 2 work at all…
All your other releases have worked perfectly fine.
I’m using Windows Media Player + CCCP (I know not the best player…), but I’ve had no other playback problems until now.

for me it “autopicks” the last chapter, the preview chapter,

clicking on the other chapters does absolutely nothing and seeking a particular spot in the episode does not do anything either in WMP
