It’s been a while since I’ve written anything here, so I guess it’s about time I do. I wanted to make this post when we release episode 12 of Hanasakeru, but our editor has been a bit lazy and hasn’t completed his share of the work yet.

As you all probably know by now, we’re officially dropping Hanasakeru Seishounen because of the Crunchyroll license. We don’t do licensed shows, normally. And we’re so far behind anyways.

The licensing is not something I expected, as such shows typically aren’t licensed due to their low popularity. They licensed it starting at episode 16, and will release catch-up subs twice per week. We at m33w will sub the show only up to episode 15. I do not have the script for episode 15, which makes thing much harder, so we might only do until 14. Everything is translated up to 14 so far.

We understand the problem of region locking for Crunchyroll subs, that’s unfortunate. As of now, there are no rip groups for Hanasakeru. Hopefully, there will be one.

The only other sub group doing it, Hell fansubs, has dropped at episode 12, so that option is out the window. It is unfortunate that we have to drop it at this point of the show as it’s just starting to get to the best part.

I’m flattered that many out there would like us to continue work on Hanasakeru, despite us being unqualified amateurs. I, too, like having subs from the same group. It’s confusing when switching from one group to another as the styles and spellings of names change. For Hansakeru, the romanisations of the character names were only revealed in episode 13, so I was only romanising based on conjecture.

As you all should know, hopefully, Raginei is a fictional country (Don’t look it up in the Atlas, you won’t find it), and their names are made up as well. One thing that did feel very real though, is the political strife portrayed in the show. It’s very typical of the region. Every single country in the South East Asian region, even the economically powerful Singapore, is plagued with political problems;
– Thailand is practically in anarchy, with an unelected Government, and ex-prime minister Thaksin is facing corruption charges.
– Indonesia dictator President Suharto resigned from political pressure and unpopularity.
– President Marcos of the Philippines was overthrown and exiled.
– Singapore is practically a monarchy. The current prime minister is the son of long reigning former prime minster Lee Kuan Yew. Its democracy is ranked very poorly.
– Malaysia’s former deputy prime minister was convicted of corruption and sodomy. Those charges were allegedly staged, using corrupt judges and police officers, to remove him from power.
– Oil-rich Brunei (pronounced Broo-nye, unlike Raginei) is a monarchy with a very wealthy sultan who is not afraid to flaunt it.

How do I know all this? Well, I’m from Malaysia. The political story in Hanasakeru: very realistic. Plotting, backstabbing, corruption, bribery, coup d’etats and whatnot.

And on a final note, just some random thoughts. I figured it’d be quite interesting to see Hanasakeru in English, simply because that’s what they’re supposed to be speaking. Although what’s coming out of their mouths is Japanese, they’re supposedly speaking in English. After all, when you put an American-born half Japanese, a Singaporean, a Frenchman and a Ragineian (fictional former British colony) together in the same room, you get m33w. Just kidding. But, they’re not gonna be speaking Japanese, that’s for sure. It’s funny how a language like English can bridge so many cultures.

Well, this is going to be the first time in 2 years that we’ve not had a weekly show to release. But it’s been a great run, hasn’t it? Do look forward to next season though, as we will be doing some new shows. Thanks for reading this long blog post.

Thanks for the update! And I really appreciate you filling in the gap between CR’s releases and the previous sub’d episodes!!

Fans should know that many streaming sites like gogoanime will rip the CR episodes, so they should be able to stay current on the series even if out of region.

An English version would be interesting, and thank you all for the hsard work on this, But I hate to say it, but the only thing I can’t wait for is your version of the second season of Nogisaka Haruke no Himitsu, I know it sounds selfish, but I enjoyed you last version, and I alsoenjoyed your Itazura na Kiss subs as well, thanks to you, I can enjoy those two on my big LCD TV at home,

using your subs I was able to make custom subtitles for the R2 retail DVDs. Hope you don’t get mad for that, they may not be as fancy as a fansub, but no retail subbed DVD looks like that.

so keep up the great work, and I look forward to your future releases

Talk about South East Asian countries, you forgot about my country, Myanmar (Burma).
It has one of the most ruthless dictators with the army buying arms to KILL its own citizens, and NOT for protecting them.

    South East Asians represent! :-)

  7. You are working on Seto no Hanayome?
Didn’t they mail out C&D letters
not to mention an official licensed statement.
But you are cool with this, however, when crunchy roll licenses something, OH SNAP! better stop the presses!

of course, I am just messing with you. Though, Hanasakeru Seishounen is one of the few shows I’ve been following the past year it is regrettable but I am not against crunchyroll.

It is really a pity that you guys are dropping the show, but I thank you guys here for all the effort that you all have made for subbing all these nice animations. I guess we can look forward to the next season for great works from m33w then :)

ooh! I’m so glad! I never knew there are sub groups from the SEA countries! Like most of the fansubs are from USA and places? So proud!!! =DDDD

  10. Seto is tun’s project. tun was also a supporter of continuing Hanasakeru. Hanasakeru however, is my project, and I decided not to continue.

I’m the only one from SEA. The rest of the crew is American or European

Thanks for subbing Hanasakeru so far :)
You guys did a great job, and we all appreciated it alot. Of course it’s inevitable that a group will keep subbing while a show is being licensed, so no hard feelings at all. I’m really happy with the news that you do will release the remaining episodes until 15.. my question: will this also include the recap episode 12.5?

Looking forward to the new fall projects you might pick up!

I’m from Brunei & i take offense on what you said about our Sultan. It’s true he’s very rich but he doesn’t flaunt his wealth around unlike his youngest brother who we all can’t never forgive for almost destroying our country’s budget by investing in unprofitable ventures.

Also our Sultan is benevolent leader since he cares about his subjects. Since when does a Sultan provides Universal Healthcare for his citizens for free & accuses his ministers for incompetence for not helping the people infront of Live National TV?

“Singapore is practically a monarchy. The current prime minister is the son of long reigning former prime minster Lee Kuan Yew. Its democracy is ranked very poorly”

I second that, but you sure have lots of guts saying such a thing.

Anyways, m33w is like a fansubbing icon now, for romance shows etc. I do hope you guys continue to pick up shows your genre.

You shouldn’t be taking offense to things like that. That is how your country is perceived. Thing is, natural resources are the property of the people. Every citizen is supposed to get an equal share. It’s only natural that you should get something in return.

However, leading a nation shouldn’t be determined by birthright. And secondly, it is fact that he has huge palaces, vast estates and a fleet of luxury cars. And before Bill Gates made it big with Windows, he was also the richest man on the planet. That my friend, is the problem I’m trying to point out. It’s like Brunei is a gigantic private estate.

    Hey M.3.3.W.!!

Seems CR is back filling the episodes. They’ve subbed Ep 15 and 14. So it might be a waste of time for mess with anything, unless you already have 13 done and can release that.

Of course CR’s subs are pretty bad, but at least they are being done. Thanks for all the previous hard work!

  26. xess
    9:35 pm on August 23rd, 2009

Thanks for the heads up. I don’t visit the CR site, so I have no idea what they’re up to. I’ve completed my work all the way to 15 like I promised. It’s now up to the rest of the crew to finish the remaining work. I can’t force them to do it, so if it doesn’t get done, then it doesn’t and may never get released.

  27. tripper
    10:58 am on August 24th, 2009

    What tripper said. ^^

I’ve just finished applying the CR subs of episodes 15 and 16 to my raws and it’s funny how the conversation between Carl and Harris is translated differently in both episodes (“We’ll just have to hope Rumaty does something reckless.” versus “What shall we do? Rumaty’s unreasonable behavior is a problem.” and much more). Not much copy/paste there… :(

So, I’d definitely be interested in your translation of that particular part, xess. :)

Anyway, I hope you guys will release the episodes (or scripts?) and thanks for your awesome releases so far!! ^^

It’s an encouraging to find out that there are subbers from SE Asia :)

Btw, I had fun reading the little section on SE Asia coz I happen to be Singaporean (LOL…our country are like next to each other..). Pity that almost every other country’s politics have their “own story”…(reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend from Vietnam…)

This is an off topic, but do you guys know any group who has subbed all 52 episodes of Flanders no Inu? I just recently seen the OVA & would definitely like to see the entire TV series since the OVA was great. Normally TV series is a lot better than just the OVA (take Kimi ga Nozomu Eien for example) so I’d appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction. So far, I’ve only seen only Raws (but it’s severely under torrented with only 2 seeders of over 11 GBs).
