So yeah… we reverted to type I guess… I’ll blame the Jew… erm… the Olympics and #NBCFail this time for us being so late… Yeah… that’s the ticket. On a separate note, while blaming the Olympics, Koichoco wasn’t aired this past week b/c of some sports stuff. That’s our TBS for you… It can’t be helped. (We’re 100 years too early to complain about it, anyway)

Oh, and bullying is bad, yo…

Notes after the Jump:

Only 2 food items this week. The rest of the episode is pretty self-explanitory.

Chanko: Chanko is short for chankonabe (ちゃんこ鍋) and is a Japanese stew (a type of nabemono or one-pot dish) commonly eaten in vast quantity by sumo wrestlers as part of a weight-gain diet. It contains a dashi or chicken broth soup base with sake or mirin to add flavor. The bulk of chankonabe is made up of large quantities of protein sources (usually chicken (quartered, skin left on), fish (fried and made into balls), tofu (or sometimes beef)) and vegetables (daikon, bok choy, etc.). While it is considered a reasonably healthy dish, chankonabe is very protein-rich and usually served in massive quantities, with beer and rice to increase the caloric intake.

Karinto: Karinto (花林糖) is a traditional Japanese snack food. It is made primarily of flour, yeast, and brown sugar and is deep-fried. It has a deep brown and pitted appearance, and takes the form of a “bite-sized” pillow or a short cylinder. Although traditional karinto is coated with brown sugar, recently other variations appear in the market, such as white sugar, sesame seeds, miso, or peanuts.
