Note, though they literally say ‘Southern Island’ and not ‘Tropical Island’, I still used tropical regardless, even though it’s not very accurate. The island is south relative to Japan’s main island, but still in the northern hemisphere. So, from an English perspective, southern island doesn’t make too much sense. But, at the same time, it can’t be called tropical as it’s past the Tropic of Cancer. But, whatever, it’s a sunny and hot island. That’s all you need to know.

Here is Telepathy Shoujo Ran 14. We’ve been busy with our new shows, so this one kinda got lost in the shuffle. I’ll give you guys a quick update on them.

Rosario + Vampire Capu2 01
Everything is just about ready. We just need to encode. And for those that were wondering, we use the Tokyo MX broadcast, which doesn’t censor the panties with that stupid bat. If Rosario + Vampire were censored, there would be no point in doing the show, amirite?

Earl and Fairy
Looks like we’re gonna go with the English name for this one, based on the categories that xess made. I think the script is pretty much finalized. We’re just waiting on the raws. TS should also be quickly finalized after we pick a raw. I don’t know if this was mentioned already, but we will be using British English for this anime since it takes place in Victorian England.

Other project
We have decided on a final project, but we won’t be announcing it until we can finalize certain details.

Ran has reached its halfway point and our other two shows are nearing completion. October is round the corner which means a brand new exciting season. The only show we currently have 100% confirmed is this, Telepathy Shoujo Ran, which would run for at least another three months. Again, this is a pretty good show, and it’s worth watching if you’re bored.

We’ll provide more details about what we’re doing next season after we release the final episodes of Nogizaka and Itazura na Kiss. Also we have another small surprise for you all soon. Be expecting that!

Another mystery case, another episode.

Well, what I wanted to talk about last week was actually the Kansai-ben, but kinda ran out of space to write. It has always somewhat fascinated me because it’s probably something you’ll never learn in a classroom for foreign language students. Basically, it’s the variety of Japanese spoken in the Western half of the Japanese main island. It was very confusing for me in the past, but I’ve gotten quite used to it as of late.

If you hadn’t already figured it out, Midori speaks in Kansai-ben. She’s voiced by Ueda Kana, who is from Osaka. Other Kansai speakers of the shows we do are Kinnosuke in ItaKiss, and Chris, after a few eps. Hikari (very occasionally) uses it in Special A. Her family is from Hiroshima? And the green-haired couple from Ninomiya. (I can no longer remember their names)

So, if you’re learning Japanese in a classroom, don’t be surprised if you suddenly discover that you understand absolutely nothing if you go to Osaka. But since you’re on this website, I kinda assume you watch anime, so you’ll at least know what the Kansai-ben sounds like.
