Jang Geum's Dream is an animation based on a Korean Drama series called Dae Jang Geum. Unlike Dae Jang Geum, however, Jang Geum's Dream explores more of Jang Geum's youth. This information is not certain, but the animated series was made so that younger audiences could understand it better. Dae Jang Geum was the most popular Korean Drama ever and still is today, having the most viewers ever recorded in Korea. It soon spread to other countries, including China, Japan, Russia, India, and, amazingly, counting.

Jang Geum's Dream is about a young girl named, quite obviously, Jang Geum, who wants to become a cook in the King's Palace. There is some history behind why Jang wants to join the Royal Kitchen. In short, something happened to Jang's mother, Park Myeong-yi, and before she died, she asked if her daughter, Jang, could avenge her death by making it into the Royal Kitchen and recording her mother's story inside the secret Highest Lady diary.

However, the complex lines of corruption and sometimes even murder present in Dae Jang Geum do not appear in Jang Geum's Dream. The fate of Jang Geum's parents is never revealed, and no one in the story dies. To understand more about the original, please watch the drama.

To summarize, this anime is about Jang's youth, filled with conflicts and resolutions. It's brimming with jealousy, romance, comedy, and drama, but unlike the original series, the plot is kept light throughout with quite a bit of comedy.
