I’d like to touch on three items in this post.

Firstly, I’ve expanded the bored section to include some liner notes and miscellaneous trivia. To explain why we rarely ever include notes in our subs; that’s because we try to follow these two main principles as best as we can:

Rule #1 – The subtitles should be as unobtrusive as possible and not fight for the viewer’s attention. Good subs are those where the viewer doesn’t even notice their presence.
Big floating text plastered across the screen to describe minute details, moves the viewer’s attention away from the anime to the subs. We want you to watch the anime, not worry about Japanese foods and such. That’s what the ‘bored’ section is for.

Rule #2 – Try to give the viewer a similar experience to a native Japanese viewer, basically what the director intended.
Unfortunately, sometimes these two rules contradict each other and we can be rather inconsistent. We end up leaving several things untranslated, honorifics being one of them. I think most viewers know what the common honorifics mean, and some people like them there. Some groups would go as far as to even translate German special attacks and such in anime. I really feel that it’s unnecessary as the director never intended them to be understood in the first place, giving it an air of mystery.

Either way, let’s not get carried away with that. The bored section is there for some mindless reading. Feel free to contribute by posting on the comments or whatever and I’ll update the page every so often.

Secondly, I’d like to kindly ask people to stop asking about when Kimi ga Nozomu Eien Next Season volume 3 is coming. This is the kiminozo website. Go email the producers or call them or whatever. We really, really don’t know when it’s coming out. My guess would be around August.

And lastly, I’ve moved Koharu Biyori to the dropped section. It has been six months, and our translator for that show hasn’t produced a script. It is disappointing as our staff has been waiting patiently, but I won’t force him to do it if he doesn’t want to.

Oh, and enjoy Special A episode 08. We get to see Akira in a bikini in this episode. Woots!

There is one translation note that we want to mention with this. When the professor is giving his little speech to the Class-F students, he uses the word amai, which means sweet, but also means naive. After he says that they’re being naive, he follows it with a joke by saying that it’s as “amai” as honey flavored daifuku, which is a Japanese sweet. So yeah, we decided that including a TL note would be pointless because the meaning of the joke is lost in translation (naive =/= sweet in English), and if you understood the joke, you don’t really need English subtitles anyway.

University life finally starts for Kotoko and Irie. Being the bimbo that she is, she still can’t get past the events of graduation day. Though most people consider them a couple, things sure don’t look that way between the two. With a love rival appearing, what will Kotoko do?

I just wanted to clear up any confusion about a cultural occurrence in episode 07. So please don’t read any further if you haven’t watched it yet.

The second button on a boy’s high school uniform has a very romantic meaning associated with it. During graduation, the boy either gives his second button to the girl he likes, or a girl can ask the boy that she likes to give the button to her. The second button is considered to be the one closest to your heart and thus contains all of your emotions and experiences during your high school career. So giving the second button to a girl is basically like confessing your love for her. Those Japanese sure are creative with their customs.

Also another note about the “escalator system.” I’m sure most of you have figured it out, but their high school has an affiliation with a local university, and thus the high school is basically a feeder for the university. As an affiliated university, many of the tests and requirements are removed for students of the affiliated high school. But I’m sure you all knew that already. 😉

I figured that this project isn’t getting enough coverage, so I’m gonna blog about it to promote it some.

I hope you all know what a visual novel game is. It’s those games where School Days, Myself; Yourself, etc. came from.

Right now, he needs voice actors, artists, script writers and proof readers. It looks like the game’s engine is functional at least. It just needs more content.

Sorry for the really long delay. YS2’s arrest has really put us in a bind for the Special A raws. Not much we can do. 🙁

Hey guys, tun here with another update. I just finished my last final for the semester and I’ll be going home tomorrow (thank god). I’m sorry for the lack of updates; the 40 comments on the Itazura 06 post is evidence of that.

As for Special A, the raws are really bad now that we’ve lost YS2’s cap (not that his caps were that great either, but they were still much better than the other ones). I think we’re gonna have to depend on Saiyaman’s raws since his caps are the best available now. The only problem with that is he doesn’t release on a consistent schedule, so that’s gonna cause some delays in terms of releasing. Saiyaman also sometimes misses an episode or two on some of the series that he encodes, so it’s gonna be hit or miss really.

The typesetting for Special A is ready, but the script has been stuck at translation check @ Fighter747 for the past few days. He finished his finals a while ago so he has no excuse. Make sure to go on IRC and annoy him into doing his work. 😉 As for a release date, I can’t really make any promises since I don’t know Fighter’s schedule. Whenever he gets around to it, you can probably expect it the next day since I should be able to edit it relatively quickly. Also, if we can finish Itazura quickly, we might just do a dual release of both Special A 06 and Itazura 07. We’ll see. 🙂

Itazura 07 airs today, and I’m expecting some big developments in this episode, so look forward to it. We should be back on our normal (fast) release cycle until early to mid June when asa has his final exams. That’s it for me today; I gotta start packing up to go home.

Here’s Itakiss 06. Now, I think this is worthy of mention because the situation of why it’s late is rather ironic, for the lack of a better word.

Itakiss airs on Thursday morning in Japan. Now, last Thursday morning, there was a level 5 quake there, hitting 2 areas. And level 4 hitting a huge number of areas. This is noted by the 4 minutes worth of quake announcements on the Itakiss CBC broadcast. Because of that, and the fact that 4 of our members were having exams, we decided to wait for the Saturday broadcast.

And would you believe it? The capper(the person who records off the TV) for the TVK broadcast, YS2, was arrested! So there was no raw. Unlike some groups such as DB for instance, we at m33w don’t have an in-group capper, thus we rely on heroes like YS2. We used his caps for shows like School Days, True Tears, Myself; Yourself, H2O and Special A. In other words, almost all our shows. Although I’ve never mentioned it, I’m really grateful to YS2 for his amazing contribution. He may not know it himself, but he’s a huge contributor to the fansub scene, as I’m sure a lot of groups make use of his caps. I’m rather upset and very shocked that we’ve lost him.

So, if you wish to complain, please don’t complain to us. Complain to Earth for having an Earthquake in Japan on Thursday, or maybe complain to the Japanese government for arresting our capper. So, you are not allowed to complain to us about the quake warnings covering the screen for 4 minutes that you’ll see in Itakiss 06.

I actually wanted to talk more about Itakiss, but it seems that this predicament has taken up all the post space. Please enjoy Itakiss 06. It’s a wonderful episode.
