It is with deep regret that I announce today the departure of m.3.3.w Fansubs from the Baka-Wolf network effectively immediately. It may come as a shock to you at how sudden this came to pass. It was quite an unexpected turn of events for us too.

The main reason why m.3.3.w joined Baka-Wolf eight months ago was for the community. Baka-Wolf managed to create a big and fun community of anime fans. Our staff has greatly enjoyed the posts, commentaries and discussions.

I guess you’d like to know the reason for our sudden departure. We were recently made aware of some disturbing news, which pointed out some problems on Baka-Wolf. Unfortunately, I won’t reveal any more than that.

Hastily, we had to make a decision. I did not want to pursue the matter any further and let things drag on, thus I proposed to sever all ties with Baka-Wolf. The senior members voted unanimously in favor. It had not been an easy decision, but one that had to be made.

I’m sorry that I cannot provide more details because I wish to be spared the drama. But, what’s most important is, by putting this issue behind us and leaving unnecessary distractions behind, we can again focus on what we initially set out to do – fansub.

And to the people who contributed the banners:
May I kindly ask those who put the words “part of the baka-wolf network” to remove that from the banners and resubmit?

tun edit: I just wanted to clear some confusion. We (m.3.3.w) will continue to sub all of the shows that we’re working on. There seems to be a misconception as to the roles of m.3.3.w and Baka-Wolf. m.3.3.w was always the entity that fansubbed the shows. Baka-Wolf is a anime forum that provided Direct Download services for our releases as well as for other shows.

Well I dont know what all happened, but at least it’s a step-forward.

I guess this also a good time to update the site too to remove any bakawolf stuff lingering around.

Yes, we will continue to sub the shows that we’ve been working on. I updated the post with some more information. Hopefully that clears everything up.

Glad I never took the time to care about DDL or the forums. Also, it will take BakaWolf out of the title of the anime I torrent. More glory for M.3.3.W imo.

I’ll be visiting here more often and I’ll still be looking forward to torrenting the great shows you guys sub! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. I made a little change in the banner… #m.3.3.w@irc.rizon.net fell underneath the pic of Hikari, I don’t know if anyone mind it, but since a lot of the banners will be resubmit, I thought I should change it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, the drama did waste like half my day. With S-A 17 so far behind and Itakiss 17 airing 4 days late… So much work to be done.

Thanks for the banner updates btw.

Doh, there’s enough drama in our everyday lives, we don’t need it here, xess is right. Fansubbing is supposed to be done by a group because they like what they do, the rest should be irrelevant. Keep subbing, and people will keep watching.

I think I understand why you decide to say goodbye to bw. I think if I was in your place I will do the same. If you believe in freedom as fansub you can’t agree to what happen.
One more thing continue with your good work.

Yes, I’m sure if everyone seeds the torrent a bit more, the extra stress of the DDL crowd will be alleviated just fine.

Remember that these guys probably don’t even go for share ratio 1, so I think it will actually become pretty important for m.3.3.w personal bandwidth.

Pity it had to go this way, but I understand and agree with the m.3.3.w crew’s fansub viewpoint. This should not turn into a commercial venture, regardless of reasons. Despite what has happened, let’s hope it turns out well for everyone, heh?

As for torrents, let’s leave that out of it…

I’m sorry to hear that, but the most important thing is that m.3.3.w is still able to fansub. Keep up the great work; we all appreciate it.

    There’s not much point in keeping some visitors in the dark while other visitors gloat about their inside knowledge. -.- But from what I can gather by one click past that Planet Earth splash page, I’mma guessing that this has to do with their $900 fundraiser? If it has to do with malware, let us know — I felt dirty for even clicking on that splash page’s link -.- , but I’ll want to know if my computer actually was dirtied! ^_^;

  29. xess
    10:01 pm on August 4th, 2008

It has nothing to do with malware. The reasons why we had left are a bit lengthy, and perhaps we’ll explain more in our next post.

Well, somebody linked to Baka-Wolf’s explanation on their forum so I’ve read it now. All I have to say is, he pretty much nailed it. He did what he had to do, but he dragged others into it and that’s what caused the break.

He mentioned the analogy of him beating an old granny for her money and how it’s not right. Well, beating an old granny certainly sounds unethical. I mean, it is unethical, of course, beating a poor old granny. But if you had to choose between beating one granny and beating ten grannies, and there was no way out of making that choice (let’s say refusing to do so means all eleven grannies get beaten by a gang of thugs), you’d still say “beating the one granny’s less bad :(” and do it. I feel that was the situation he was in and why so many people are able to sympathize with him. I feel that that was NOT the situation many of the staff and donors were in and so they have reason to be mortified at what’s happened.

Life goes on, but he seems like a good guy with quite a recognizable form of moral conscience guiding him. Good people can do bad things when placed into horrible circumstances. Life’s a b____ like that. And I’d voice my opinion that what he did, while bad, isn’t all THAT bad. Not in the grand scheme of things. 25ยข’ll buy you a newspaper that’d convince anyone of that.

Or he could have quit the internet. Passed down his rights as admin of Baka-Wolf and went and got a job to support his family. Everyone saying “family comes first” obviously doesn’t know the meaning. If his family came first he wouldn’t be on the internet AT ALL because sitting infront of your computer isn’t putting food in your child’s mouth unless you are doing one of those internet jobs which he wasnt…

  36. Chumara
    3:48 am on August 5th, 2008

And yet why would people DDL anyways when the torrents run at least 3x the speed? The extra server loads seem unnecessary.
As long as M.3.3.W is still here I don’t care what happens to B-W community, this was a great group right at the start back when it was just School Days, and it’s still chugging along with the quality speedy releases that it started with.

  37. Tal
    10:26 am on August 5th, 2008

Do you know for a fact that Baka-Wolf wasn’t or isn’t a major source of his personal income, Kaori? It would be peculiar for a man to spend as many as 16 hours a day on an enterprise that amounts to non-profit recreation. Perhaps not “peculiar” as tales of World of Warcraft addicts today and EverQuest addicts before them haunt the Internet-public consciousness, but what would be peculiar is for the non-BakaWolf-involved wife and children to remain there rather than leaving to live temporarily with the maternal grandparents.

All speculation, but I’m just saying that from what little I know of the situation it doesn’t add up that Baka-Wolf only offered his family emotional solace. Emotional solace doesn’t pay the rent. Perhaps the 16 hours a day bit was only one day out of the week and the other days of the week are filled with playing with the kids, spending time with his wife, and working the very job you’re saying he ought to have gotten. Otherwise, I would think that some financial gain had to come out of Baka-Wolf. Anyway, speculation has a funny habit of generating more questions than it answers so I’ll stop here.

As much as I hate to stay quiet and reside in the backstage of things, this is just too interesting to pass by. Even as I say this I don’t support neither side nor B-W nor m.3.3.w. All I’ve read so far from both side is about asking for pity and making a rash decision. Of course, there are those who strongly support one side and ignore the rest, yes, those are the good people. Why? Because being ignorant is the BEST attitude in the world. Someone falls and no one cares–simple, and it takes care of unnecessary drama and whatnot.

I’m not convinced by the fact that being able to spend x number of hours on the internet is a fortitude for obligation and a way to gain sympathy. What? Scared that the internet will disappear if you don’t spend x number of hours in front of the computer? There is no sympathy for that. There is no heavier problem than that happening right in front of the face of reality. That’s an absolute, and even a hypocrite will only make a fool of himself to change that.

BUT! Here’s the good meaty part, it only takes one thorn to make someone not to hold a rose. If you’re smart enough to understand that, then good for you. Someone I know stole something and now he’s getting chased by the cops! What do I do! Its not my problem, so why should I get involved? Its nice to see that there are still some people who believe that covering their footprints is the righteous way to do things. Incredible. Just incredible.
