Season two begins, somewhat appropriately, with a recap episode. This was really great for me, as I haven’t watched all of season one yet, so now I’m caught up. (I’ll actually watch all the S1 episodes soon. I think.) The episode is sort of a Kurumi special, or, you might say, Kimi ni Todoke S1 from Kurumi’s view. So the epic Sadako reaction-faces are still there, just not as many as usual. However, you get a lot of Kurumi action. Even middle school Kurumi action. Middle school bishoujo ftw.
Oh. And there are “<chaosrains> SPARKLES AND BUBBLES”.
Anyway, sorry that this isn’t a super-exciting episode. The recap aspect of the show let us put a lot of energy into the OP/ED and logo, however, so hopefully at least those parts are accurate. (Well, hopefully all the subs are accurate, yes?) See y’all next week! Also, apologies for the slowness — acquiring a high-quality raw was more difficult than usual, stalling us out for a bit. Look forward to lightning-release next week.
(Also, a random thought. The author of this manga must’ve really liked drawing bathrooms? A good 10% of the anime occurs in a bathroom.)
Also here is an SD version for those of you who wanted one. The rest of the series will have an HD and SD version as well.
Here is a link for the v2 patch if you wish to patch your version. This patch fixes the scene bleeds and fixes the subs not showing up

will you be subbing the rest of season 2 loyally or just episode 00?? just asking cuz I’d prefer yours over gg any day.
As implied in the blog post, but I suppose not stated totally explicitly (in this particular post), we will be doing the whole series. And we’ll be doing it fast. During finals week, I reserve the right to take a week off, however, as grades are very important to me, being Japanese and all. Thank you for your support π — Love, asagao

Excuse me but, is there anything wrong with the subs? I got subs on the Opening and the Ending but not on the actual episode..
Thanks in advance.

Is the translator the one who did the 1st season with eclipse?
I don’t… think so… — Love, asagao
7:07 am on January 8th, 2011
will you be making a SD version?
Depends on how many people want it, and moreover whether the encoder for the show wants to release an SD version. I’ll talk to him about it, but no promises, for sure. — Love, asagao
7:55 am on January 8th, 2011
@yuriko – You have to turn on the subs through whatever player you use because they set to off by default.
Also thanks for Kimi ni Todoke! Yall did a awesome job!
Oh god, did we really? Wow, sorry about the default settings, yeah, in the systray (assuming you use Windows) you should be able to find an icon for your video player (assuming you use MPC, which is what we (for the most part) use) and change the sub settings there. (This is a general notice, since yuriko figured it out, but others might have problems.) (UPDATE: I tried, on MPC-HC, worked just fine… Still, though, if you’re having problems, yeah, turning subs on is a good first step.) — Love, asagao

thanks guys.

Thanks; nice to see that the karaoke and styling was the same as Eclipse’s Season 1. π
Also, it looks like the timing of the subs is off by one frame in the second half of the episode; just thought I’d point that out.
We were hoping that the styling and kara would trick you subconsciously into believing that our subs were also as godly as Eclipse’s (R.I.P). I dunno timing stuff, but hopefully one frame won’t kill you… — Love, asagao

I was going to write a note on this in the blog, but, now that someone’s asked, I guess I’m obliged…:
Microsigns: Spine of book, title (0:00-0:02): “Heart” (unnecessarily long TL note: “Heart” is not meant in the biological sense, likely, but more metaphysically.
Phone (0:00-0:02): “Receiving Message…”
Kurumi’s book (1:00): lit., “‘Ume’ Notes” — or the “Those Who Called Me ‘Ume'” notebook.
I couldn’t read the little brown sign toward the end of the ep. in the chocolate shop, but it’s basically a sign saying that the boxed chocolate is 1800 yen. I think that’s common sense, though.
Sawako’s chocobags (late in the episode): The one on the right, with the tag facing upwards, says, “To Ekko-chan”

Thank you for subbing Kimi ni Todoke Season 2. I look forward to m.3.3.w putting out quality subs of the second season.
One question though, I thought m.3.3.w was doing this show as a joint with gg?
Not a joint. –Love, asagao

F*ck yes, some respectable group for my lovely Sawako. God loves me and It will love you too guys π π
12:56 pm on January 8th, 2011
I also had a problem with the subs not showing in the actual episode other than op and end but it works by turning it on. I’m…just lazy. hahaha Is there a way to change the default setting myself? Be retarded to ask you to rerelease it cause I’m lazy hahaha PS: i use MPC-HC too
1:20 pm on January 8th, 2011
Yay! I was really hoping a good group would do this show!
Looks like you guys are going to be my favorite group for this season, since you are doing both of the shows I really wanted to see π π
(Kimi ni Todoke s2 and Mitsudomoe s2)
Thanks m.3.3.w π

@tkkaine and @yuriko
http://www.sendspace.com/file/ejcfjw
Here’s a patch that enables subtitles for this episode by default.
Just extract the files in the zip folder to the same place you have the episode and run the bat file.
Hope it helps π
3:11 pm on January 8th, 2011
The 1800 yen sign wasn’t needed, not even a bit.
I see no problems with timing as well.
@blah: Seriously, did you REALLY notice a ONE frame problem with 24 frames per second?
I really liked the Eclipse-styling on the karaokes, it gave a “Kimi ni Todoke feeling” (for those used to the Eclipse release) as soon as the episode started. Although this is just plain stupid, I preferred Eclipse’s font to yours.
Only thing that bugged me is the no-subs-default, how do I change that?
And Asagao, keep tricking us to think your subs are as godly as Eclipse’s, because I think you guys did an excellent job.
3:25 pm on January 8th, 2011
Yeah, yeah. At last π
P.S. Are you doing .avi version too?
5:29 pm on January 8th, 2011
@Luke:
“Although this is just plain stupid, I preferred Eclipseβs font to yours.
Only thing that bugged me is the no-subs-default, how do I change that?”
The patch I posted above fixes both of those things.

Good luck with it all!
May asa-tan’s lolis be with you!

@jmaeshawn
Thanks a lot for the patch. But… will you make one for each episode for the sake of subtitle font consistency? :>
6:31 pm on January 8th, 2011
@Luke: Scene bleeds in the subs. They were consistently going over the scene changes by one frame, so I said that they were off by one frame.
6:32 pm on January 8th, 2011
I’m going to change the font for myself anyway, so I don’t see why I couldn’t make a patch for anyone else who wants it too. π
7:18 pm on January 8th, 2011
@Blah: I still don’t get you. π
@jmaeshawn: Thanks a lot! π
7:49 pm on January 8th, 2011
I would <3 it if you could release an SD version as well. XviD, H264, 400p, 480p, whatever. I'm in it for the smaller file size. (Yes, I could just re-encode to save space, but I prefer to archive 'official' fansub releases.)
8:00 pm on January 8th, 2011
Always good to see m.3.3.w show up on the feeds. Really appreciate you guys and thanks for working on Kimi ni Todoke.
Of course!! Take care of the grades. Subs don’t get your employed later, but good grades do help.
~trip

I’d love a SD version as well if it’s not much trouble…though I could convert it myself if you can’t (though I kinda suck at it…aha…)

Ah, I was able to get it by going through the DDL page. Thanks.

NOTE TO PEOPLE WITH SROW COMPUTERS OR LOW HDD SPACE: we are not doing a 480p version, or an .avi version. Final answer. I might offer a really bad avi encode for some special people. We changed our minds. 480p encode on the way, .mkv.
11:28 pm on January 8th, 2011
Hmm the patch doesn’t work for me, though not a problem as I know how to fix the scene bleeds and no-subs problems myself.
Great job with the karaoke, they’re an exact copy of the original by Eclipse, wish I knew how to do that.
And also the font they used is EXACTLY the same as the one Eclipse used so don’t know what people are complaining about.
Assuming you’re using a Windows computer, you might just not have waiting long enough for the .bat to execute fully. This may not be the case, just throwing that out there as a suggestion. — Love, asagao

I’m sorry for the double post – Please delete my earlier post. I forgot to hit the refresh button to see the newer comments.

There are basically three kinds of people who are looking for an SD release:
1) I have a DVD player that only plays XviD
2) I have a crappy netbook that can’t handle 720p
3) I have a tiny hard drive and need a smaller file/The difference in video quality just doesn’t matter to me
People types 2 and 3 will be covered by the imminent 480p release. Person 1 is out of luck because that DVD player probably only supports XviD in AVI. I can’t give you an XviD in AVI without intentionally destroying the ED by making it a jerky disgusting mess (especially important because the ED is one giant panning sequence).

@JJS There’s number 4 too.
4)I have a crappy internet connection and 720p takes too long to download / uses too much quota.
5:06 am on January 9th, 2011
HDD space? You can get a 1TB external drive for like β¬60 here.
Internet sucks ass? I’m pretty sure there is nobody left in this world with less than 5Mbps except if you chose not to get that, or you’re poor as fuck. (I mean I don’t even know anyone that has below 20Mbps anymore). Limited bandwith? lol
DiVX/XViD player? Seriously? There are 101-ways to stream HD media in any format to your TV, why the fuck would you use a DiVX player?
Sure is empathy around here. — Love, asagao

Arigatou!
And big thanks for the SD Version ^^

@sssssssssss: In my country internet speeds of 1Mbps or lower are still commom. Mine is 10Mbps, but those are still kind of rare.
@jmaeshawn: Do you mind patching the v2 font? :>
You can just tell me how to do it, if you don’t want to. π
Back at home, I’m still using 56k modem. No whining. — Love, asagao

Thanks for subbing this, i was wondering which group to go with for S2
Btw, I can’t believe they still didn’t fix the one-eyed-Kurumi scene, it freaks me out every time i see it.
Have you watched “Bokura ga Ita”? There are one-eyed scenes like 10 times per episode. Not sure where you’re talking about, but it’s probably an artistic technique, not a mistake. — Love, asagao
7:48 am on January 9th, 2011
Shouldn’t the SD version be in Xvid/avi format?
No. We do what we want. See JJS’s post above for a partial explanation. — Love, asagao
11:07 am on January 9th, 2011
Thanks for doing this.
Does the patch work with the sd version as well because the subs aren’t lined up with what they are saying.
Uh its you then, cause the subs line up fine in the SD version.
~Saoen
4:44 pm on January 9th, 2011
yeah scratch what i just said i think my computer is acting up or something cause when i replay it or rewind it it works fine.
4:12 am on January 10th, 2011
Saoen, I’ve made some modifications to the site admin. I’ve added a new category, ‘SD’, on top of ‘h264’ and ‘xvid’ for filetypes.
The regex will search for the sub-string 480p in the filename to identify SD versions.
Tell me if anything goes wrong with it.
8:27 am on January 11th, 2011
What was the name for the first release of this episode? I always change file names while downloading and without changing the name back I can’t use the Patch.
Protip: Download the .torrent again, or if you still have it on your comp., re-load it into your torrent program. The program will create an .mkv with the proper name. Copy/paste name into file, delete the file you just loaded into your torrent program, update, you’re good to go π — Love, asagao

I definitely prefer this one over [gg] and [fms]. I hope you’ll continue through the whole series.
One glaring error though at the end:
“δ»ζ₯γ―δΈηͺι«γγγγ―γ ” is translated as
Kurumi: Okay — today I’ll get the most expensive facial treatment!
I think it should be “the most expensive chocolate” (or more literally, “pack/package”).
I respect your opinion, but respectfully disagree. After all, in that scene, she has already been to the chocolate store. Now, I suppose, she could be reflecting upon her purchase (i.e. Today, I bought the most expensive choco.), since the tense of the implied ‘buy’ is unclear. Gut instinct, plus knowledge of the sort of girl Kurumi is, led me to choose the translation I did, and I’m sticking by it. The weird thing, of course, is that it *appears* to already be eveningtime when Kurumi makes this statement — although it is winter, so the scene may still be fairly early in the day, even though it is rather dark. Anyway, thanks for your concern. — Love, asagao

It’s too bad you guys didn’t do season one, but I’m just as happy to see season two being subbed by you guys. Thanks again for the release! _Sawako should be your new banner just saying ….
Seeing as Eclipse did S1 perfectly fine and with great speed, we didn’t feel a need to sub the first season. (Source: my memory of asking the group if we could do the first season, and being told to stop asking for oversubbed show is oversubbed.) — Love, asagao

When I was talking about the one-eyed scene, i meant this one:
http://i53.tinypic.com/2gtw610.jpg
It doesn’t look like an artistic technique to me, cause if it was, they would do the usual “not-draw-the-eye-at-all”-thing, but this time everything except the eyeball is there, which makes it look pretty weird. That’s why i’m surprised they didn’t fix it.
*pees pants* Woah, scary. If I were to defend the artists, I would say that it really is meant to look like that, that the shadow of her hair (?) somehow magically caught her eye but not eye lashes. Realistically speaking, though, it’s probably either a “hope they won’t notice” moment, or a “it looked really weird when we included her left eye, so we left it out for aesthetic reasons”. — Love, asagao
